The aging process can leave you looking tired and/or angry even when you are the most joyous. Over time, the loss of elasticity in the skin and the effects of gravity can cause the eyebrows to droop. This can make the eyes appear sunken and others may comment that you look upset or worried very often. You may feel youthful on the inside and you want that to be reflected to everyone you encounter face-to-face.
ArtfulSurgery, led by board-certified plastic surgeon, Elizabeth Slass Lee, MD, serves the California Bay Area. Dr. Lee offers the transformative brow lift in her practice to help you regain the youthful demeanor you once had. By expertly lifting your brows, Dr. Lee can help you appear more alert and awake, opening your eyes for the world to see!
A brow lift is a surgical procedure where the eyebrows are raised and the lines on the forehead are smoothed. This gives way to a more revitalized you! The general natural look of the female eyebrows are arched-shaped and are located above the bony rim of the eye. The eyebrows of males are usually at the level of the bony rim. The aging process in both males and females causes the eyebrows to descend and possibly overlap the eyelids.
Once you meet with Dr. Lee during your consultation, you will be provided with specific instructions to help you prepare for surgery. You may be directed to stop smoking and drinking alcohol during the preparation period and after surgery. Dr. Lee may also instruct you to stop taking any medications that may thin your blood, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and herbal supplements. This is to ensure your health and safety during and after the procedure.
To further prepare for your successful recovery, you are to appoint a trusted adult to drive you home after surgery and to stay with you for at least the 24 hour period following your procedure. Any prescriptions from Dr. Lee should be filled prior to your appointment.
If there are any additional instructions specific to your case, Dr. Lee will inform you of them during your consultation and pre-operative appointment.
On the day of your brow lift procedure, you will meet with Dr. Lee to review your customized treatment plan. She will ensure you are comfortable with your decision to undergo surgery at this time. Once you confirm you are ready for this eye opening procedure, you will be taken into the operating room. You will be given the appropriate anesthesia to help keep you from experiencing any discomfort during surgery. Depending on your specific procedure plan, Dr. Lee may perform your brow lift procedure using one of two methods.
The endoscopic brow lift is performed using an instrument called an endoscope. It is a thin tube with a camera that allows for proper visualization of the structures under your skin. Several small incisions will be made in the hairline. From there, the tissues of the forehead and eyebrow regions are released and raised to a higher position. The skin on the forehead will be smoothed and tightened using sutures.
The coronal brow lift is a more extensive procedure than the endoscopic brow lift. An incision is usually made from ear to ear either at the top of the head or just in front of the hairline, depending on the height of the forehead. After the incision is made, Dr. Lee will lift the skin and underlying muscles of the face, as needed. The excess skin will be removed and the incision will be carefully closed. The resulting scar is well concealed within the hair or can be covered with bangs.
There are many benefits of undergoing a brow lift with Dr. Lee. Many patients report heightened self-esteem after their procedure as a more refined appearance emerges.

A brow lift may be combined with other procedures, either during your brow lift surgery, or afterward. This holistic revitalization to your appearance can help you achieve the aesthetic goals of your dreams!
A facelift is a surgical procedure that addresses laxity in the skin and muscles of the lower two-thirds of your face. Like a brow lift, Dr. Lee will expertly lift and redrape the sagging tissues, making your face appear smoother and more taut. You can showcase your more youthful appearance for years to come!
Botox and Dysport injections are minimally-invasive procedures that address the dynamic lines and wrinkles of the upper face. Frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases are no match for these popular neuromodulators. As we continually make facial expressions, our muscles pull at the overlying skin, causing it to crease more and more over time. Botox and Dysport work to temporarily cease these muscle movements, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles! Adding Botox or Dysport to your regimen after you have healed from your brow lift can help keep your forehead smoother for longer!
Dermal fillers are another type of minimally-invasive injections. This class of injectable treatment aims to plump the skin, providing enhanced suppleness to your appearance. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and collagen production slows. This causes a significant increase in lines and wrinkles, as well as areas of the face, such as the cheeks and lips to deflate. Dermal fillers are injected just under the skin to provide you with a smoother and more voluminous face!

These patients may be often told that they look tired or angry because of the lines on their forehead or the drooping of their eyebrows. Ideal brow lift candidates should have ample hair at and behind the hairline, as well as good skin quality in the forehead. They are realistic and optimistic about what a brow lift can do for them.

Following your brow lift surgery, you can expect the treated areas to be swollen and tender. Bandages and elastic dressings will be placed at the surgical site to aid in the reduction of subsequent swelling. During the ensuing weeks, you will need to sleep with your head elevated to further mitigate swelling.
You may be able to return to work and normal activities after about two weeks, post-op. Residual swelling and bruising may take up to several months to resolve. During this time, it is imperative that you follow Dr. Lee’s post-operative instructions very closely to ensure optimal healing and results.

Known to plastic surgeons as blepharoplasty, an eyelid lift is a brief yet beneficial operation that can brighten your look and improve your vision. Droopy eyelids are caused by a loss of skin elasticity as we age, or they may be the result of certain genetic factors. In either case, excess skin around the eyes distorts our appearance, creating tension between how we really feel and the grumpy, drowsy look we are unintentionally projecting.

Ptosis is a severe drooping of the eyelids. Many people develop ptosis over time. As we get older, our skin becomes lax and saggy. Skin can hang over the eyes and make us appear sad, tired or angry. Some people are born with droopy eyelids (or with a high susceptibility to them). Ptosis can obscure our vision and obstruct our attempts to relate with others. But there is a solution. An eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure that lifts and tightens the skin around the eyes.

Eyelid lift is an outpatient procedure, seldom lasting longer than an hour. Dr. Lee generally performs blepharoplasty under local anesthesia. If she will be working on both your upper and lower eyelids, she will begin with the upper pair first.
She begins with a careful incision along your lid’s natural crease. Dr. Lee will remove loose skin, perhaps some fat, and any other redundant or superfluous tissue. Some patients may request or require a minor muscle tuck to pull the lid even farther open. The upper portion of the operation concludes as Dr. Lee delicately sutures each end of the incision together along the same eyelid crease in which she started.
Lower lid surgery requires a little more finesse because it involves a smaller surface area. Dr. Lee makes her incision just below the lashes. Again, she will remove extra fat and skin as needed. And then, mindfully and meticulously, she sutures the cleavage closed.[3]
Blepharoplasty is a simple and straightforward procedure that will remove the lax and sagging skin that droops over your eyes. In fact, most eyelid surgeries take less than an hour. The recovery is fairly easy, as well, with only one to two weeks of significant swelling and bruising. And because the incisions are made in the natural creases of your lids, any scarring will be minimally visible once your incisions have healed. The procedure can improve eyesight, as well, by removing obstacles from your field of vision.
You might consider an eyelid lift if you show signs of aging in the upper third of your face, around the eyes. Younger people who were born with droopy eyelids may also investigate the benefits of blepharoplasty.
Blepharoplasty is a safe and smooth procedure that can correct droopy eyelids (ptosis). Only you and your surgeon can know for sure if an eyelid lift is the best solution. You should investigate eyelid surgery if you are experiencing any of the following issues:

Full recovery from an eyelid lift takes several months. Most of the swelling and bruising should subside after a week. You may return to work within seven to ten days, depending on what the doctor recommends.
Any surgical procedure comes with the possibility of scarring. Part of the art of plastic surgery is making sure the scars are small and discreet. A skilled surgeon will place the incisions for an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) along natural creases in the skin. This will help to make any scarring less conspicuous. It is also important to closely follow your doctor’s aftercare instructions. Your doctor’s wisdom and your own common sense should prevail when deciding what’s best for your safe and speedy recovery.
The signs of aging may affect more than just your eyes. In many cases, patients experience skin laxity throughout their entire face. In these instances, Dr. Lee may recommend a Face Lift for comprehensive skin-tightening across your entire countenance. If your excess skin pools below your chin and neck, too, then a Neck Lift is what’s needed to rejuvenate your profile.[4]

The results of a brow lift from Dr. Lee are long-lasting! The natural aging process will continue and the skin will become more lax over time following brow lift surgery. However, the effects of gravity and aging will not be as prominent as they were before a brow lift. You can rest assured knowing that your results will endure and you will continue to appear more youthful as time passes!
Many patients seek to undergo a brow lift after noticing significant lines on their foreheads or that their eyebrows have descended below the bone above the eye. There are many things to consider when determining your candidacy for a brow lift. To learn if a brow lift is appropriate for you and what you are looking to achieve, reach out to ArtfulSurgery to schedule a one-on-one consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Elizabeth Lee. During this appointment, Dr. Lee will assess your goals, concerns, anatomy, and history to see if a brow lift is right for you.
Most patients report that their eyelid lift was a quick and relatively painless procedure. You will experience some swelling and bruising during your recovery. Apply cold compresses for the first several days to keep any recuperative discomfort in check. For one week following surgery, sleep upright, propped-up by pillows or in a comfortable reclining chair. This will help the bruising to subside.
Blepharoplasty’s incisions are small, but it is a precise procedure, requiring exacting surgical acumen. Local anesthesia is the preferred method for the most skilled plastic surgeons working today.
You will enjoy the benefits of blepharoplasty for about a decade. Droopy eyelids (ptosis) are the result of the aging process coupled with individual anatomical factors. The procedure rejuvenates your appearance by helping to make you look more awake and alert. Lax, sagging skin can begin to pool around the eyes as we get older. This is caused by a gradual decline in skin elasticity over the years. Droopy eyelids can intensify the outward aspects of aging by making one appear tired and grumpy. Ptosis presents an attitude that may belie the burgeoning, bright-eyed youth within you. By correcting this, an eyelid lift can take years off your look. But it cannot halt the aging process altogether. Though significantly regressed, the progress of ptosis will continue as you age.
